A few more...
Growing up it always seemed my mom kept a $20 hidden away for emergencies (in later years it was a $100) - I don’t have the cash but maybe I try to keep a few congregations that are looking tucked away :). In other words I can’ publish all that I hear about, so if you are looking e-me or call me and we can talk.
Anyone know of any openings from Sunday?
Here are a few I’ve not shared here before (I don’t think anyway):
Mike Baker (formerly of Lewisburg, TN) and the Tyler, TX congregation have hired Michael Whitworth from Culleoka to be the educational minister there. That leaves Culleoka open. Not a large church but from what I hear a good one.
Our friend and fellow blooger Adam Faughn tells me that the church of Christ in Mount Vernon, Illinois, is looking. Mt. Vernon is a nice town and is within driving distance of Paducah, KY and St. Louis, MO.
The church in Booneville, MS is looking for a new man. Booneville is one of those small towns where the church has been very strong and has a reputation of a “we can get it done” spirit.
Hmmm...did I mention Centerville, TN? Talk about a church with much potential. The church is bigger than the city in a very real sense. Our friend Bill Perkins served as the unintended interim (I suppose we all knew it would happen, it’s so hard to follow a legend) but he’s OK living down in “the great state” now :). I’d tread lightly (you better be tough and humble) but there is much good to help build on there.
If you’d like to try a “part time” work (does such really exist?) you might contact Dover in Stewart Co.
Finally Doug Burleson (my arch enemy - yeah sure) opens up a whole new area. The real south - Louisiana and south Mississippi. Kensington Woods Church of Christ in Hattiesburg, MS. They run about 300, have a college ministry at Southern Miss, and offer good benefits with their pay package. They have a good reputation for mission works. Hollywood Church of Christ in Houma, LA. Houma's south of New Orleans (deep in cajun country), is a good church. Crieve Hall takes summer mission trips to this area. Besides just having the joy of preaching at a church with the name "Hollywood," it looks like a good deal. DeGualle Drive Church of Christ in New Orleans AND Hickory Knoll Church of Christ in New Orleans. Both of these churches have had a lot of transition since Katrina. DeGualle's preacher Bill Burchette resigned for health reasons but they've got a good associate and besides being an older congregation have a lot of potential. Hickory Knoll is one of the biggest churches of Christ in New Orleans. Mike Fox was their preacher but has moved back to TN and Dennis Jones (president of Heritage) is filling in as an interim. Zachary Church of Christ in Zachary, LA. Zachary is a church of about 125-150 in Zachary (which is about 20 minutes from Baton Rouge). They're a good church with ties to FHU and a desire to grow.
Yes, I still have three or four I’ve not listed in these few posts....but right now I’d like to hear any reports from Sunday :)
Have a grand day - and God bless you!
