Misc...or you might say, stuff.

“I’ll (or we’ll) be praying for you, let me know if I can do more” - it’s one of those phrases we use almost instinctively. But every time I try to type it...I can’t. I suppose it’s a theological thing for me. I can’t do more. When I’ve taken it to God, I’ve done the best I can do. Let me know if I can do something else, fine...but not more.

Preachers and elders often get at odds with each other. If only our works could continue as they begin. I continue to enjoy my work with my present shepherds but I’ve talked to several preachers and elders lately who seem at the end of their rope with the relationship they have with the other. Over time we learn each others weaknesses and sins, we have others who come to us and toss verbal grenades in the mix (I contend that even if you don’t believe them those words subconsciously affect us), the ideas of the “new” preacher grow tired as they don’t always work. Over time it changes. I wish we’d commit to working together. To working through issues and mistakes. To discussing how to solve problems. I’ve never seen a healthy growing church where the elders and preacher did not work well together. Each has much to offer the other. Hey guys...talk about it.

I’ve known for years the power of media and have tried to use it. When I was in Eva I my dad was kind enough to let me be on his weekly 30 minute program. I learned so much during that time. In Nashville we produced a number of TV commercials and then got hooked up with channel 4 and it became so much easier to open doors. We’ve used print ads and articles for a long time But in the last week I’ve been reminded again of the power of media. One of our guys, Marc, helped get a fabulous half page article in the local papers about Spring Meadows. In the last seven days I’ve had three people I’d never met who came up to me and just wanted to talk about “your new church”. Two have promised to visit and another actually did last Sunday. Remember make media work for you. I did a phone interview with a reporter from a west Tennessee paper earlier today. While I don’t know that I subscribe to the concept that “the only bad press is no press”, I am sure we would be wise to make God’s church’s news...News.
