It’s all about the meals

Best moment of the day was a lectureship first. Anytime you do a first on a nearly 75 year old program you’ve either done real good or real bad! It was the 2:30 lecture. I was listening to Marlin Connelly. He was speaking of his grandmother who had a board she would put up little proverbs and other saying for the kids to see. He commented they (the great grandkids) had all turned out pretty good, except Andy - who was in the audience. Andy shot back, kiddingly, “dad, your time is about gone.” To which Marlin basically disinherited him!!!! :) It was rich. I don’t think anyone has ever been written out of the family will during a lecture!

Lectureships...yum. Yes, we are fed spiritually but we also eat. Everyone has their traditions when it comes to meal strategy at FHU -each has their own plan. For almost as many people who live in a town the rest of the year to convene on that town for a while week makes the local businesses grin and causes the groups to spill out in most directions.

Some are loyalists - They eat at the Associates kitchen and the money makes its way back to Freed. This year that good group has given over $30,000.00 back to the school.
Some are traditionalists - They eat at the school cafeteria Gano.
Some are modernists - They eat where ever is new. This year its Los Portales.
Some are followers - These eat with the group, the larger the group the better.
Some are yankees - They eat north - that’s Jackson.
Some miss “momma’s cooking” - You’ll find them at Casey Jones Village.
Some are oil barons - They eat at the greasiest place they can find.

For me I have a plan:
Sunday night - LATE! Krystal burgers. The guys from West of the Mississippi want Krystal - they haven’t had one in a year!
Lunch Monday - Jack’s Creek (I have some friends who won’t go to a single lecture but make the drive just to get some Jack’s Creek Bar-b-que.
Monday night - Catfish Cabin
Tuesday night - Brooksie’s. This is the food highlight of the week. I could be buried there (and probably will die from it!).
Lunch the rest of the week - I either skip it...or find a group to spend time with.

Just a little fun - after getting back from Brooksie’s.
