Scoops o’ th’ day

Got some real headliners today...so hang on tight:

Mike Baker gets a personal scoop as he is leaving West Erwin in Tyler, TX to move back to middle Tennessee. Anyone want to venture a guess where? OK, go ahead, give up. Mike has accepted the work as the Involvement and Outreach Minister at the Crieve Hall Church of Christ.  He will be starting in that role on August 29th. He will also be filling in some when brother Watkins is away. This will put him closer to family which was a major consideration.

Of course that means the West Erwin congregation www.westerwin.org will be opening a search for his replacement soon. West Erwin currently averages around 650 in attendance.  West Erwin is very mission minded and will soon be celebrating their 125th anniversary. Jay Lockhart preached there for several years.

Next up: Our friend Andy Walker also grabs the “self-scoop” as he will be leaving Marion, KY to begin work with the great small town church in Woodbury, TN. He will be transitioning into the pulpit work there as brother Herb Alsup moves into another role.

With Andy’s leaving the Marion congregation will be looking for someone to fill that role. Marion is a small town. It is the town where Western Kentucky Youth Camp is and that adds some attractiveness. I’d recommend contacting Andy for more details. awalkit@hotmail.com

The next big scoop goes to Joe Garmon: He’s a Maury County fellow so I’ll give him maor props! He and his wife worship with the church in the Glade, in the retirement community of Fairfield Glade near Crossville, TN. Their preacher is reaching the age he wants to completely retire from preaching and are in need of a younger "'retiree" for our congregation of approximately twenty five. In Joe’s words: “This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to move to a beautiful area and become our minister.” A general description of the person we are is seeking can be seen at www.churchofchristintheglade.com/news. You can contact Joe directly at 33kittycat@frontiernet.net.

In the “odd scoop” of the day, the maintenance man at the West Dyersburg church (Jimmy Jones) “officially” gets the scoop that Ricky Burse was named as the pulpit minister there yesterday. I’d heard it was true but called early this morning to confirm it and brother Jones answered. I don’t think I’ve ever know a janitor who subbed as the secretary! Good work brother.

Ricky has been at the Linary church in Crossville, TN. For more about that congregation go to: http://www.linary.com/index.html. They appear to run 225-250 on Sundays.

I listed this one a while back but got a request to list is again. The Central Church of Christ, Saraland, AL is looking for a pulpit minister. This is a church with a great history. For more go to: http://www.centralsaralandcoc.com/

The Chickamauga Church in Georgia will be looking as our old friend David Wade is retiring.

The search committee at Graymere asked me to give you a little more info: “We wanted to let you know about a more confidential way for a prospective candidate to submit his resume to our Preacher Search Advisory Committee for the pulpit position.  Please help us pass the word that candidates can submit their resume by e-mail to either Fred Porter at drfred@charter.net or Dennis Stephen at dstephen@tfbf.com.  They can also mail their resume to Fred Porter at 1235 Imperial Dr, Columbia, TN 38401.” http://www.graymere.com/search.htm
