It’s scooping Sunday...they come in all sizes!

There are several big scoops but first things first. I know most of you know my dad, Jerry (I don’t think I can call him that :)). He is having some health issues, a first for him, and he is in UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL for some tests. It seems odd. He has never been in the hospital as a patient before and he has virtually never been sick - he doesn’t even get colds. I know you will all pray for my dad. May I just say, “thank you” - I’ve been reminded the last few days of how many people I am blessed to know who are so full of God, so full of love and who I love!

Let’s keep it all in the family to start this off. This morning my younger son, Andrew and his wife Kadee announced that they will be moving to Spanish Fort, AL where he will be the new youth minister. He will be leaving the Zion Rest congregation that has been such a blessing in his life. They gave him his first chance in ministry and he met his wonderful Kadee there. If you want to know more about the church there, contact Tony Brown, the preacher there at brownline@bellsouth.net.

On a sad note Bobby Sampson, long time preacher in the Columbia/Spring Hill area passed away and his funeral was today (9/26). He has been the encouraging preacher at the Old Lasea congregation and will be missed.

Our dear friend, Paul Spurlin, has shifted from youth ministry to take his skills to the pulpit. He will be working with the Palisades church in Birmingham. We’re happy for both and wish them the very best!
Now for some other big news. After a nearly year search Drew Crosby has been selected to work with the Kingwood Heights church in Murfreesboro as their preacher. His leaving opens the pulpit at Wingate in Nashville. I am not sure what the next step for this good church is but you can learn more about them and find contact info at http://www.wingatechurch.org/

We’re happy for both Michael Whitworth and the Jersey Village church in Houston as they have begun working together!

The Wheatfield Church of Christ is seeking a preacher to fill the pulpit starting July, 2011. The preacher there is retiring. They say: “For the future of our congregation, we need to increase the number of our youth and are looking for a brother who is scriptural, motivated, active in the community and up to the challenge, who is also interested in a longtime stay.  Wheatfield has thirty-five members and two elders. If interested call Bernard Bailey at 219-842-8579, John Norris at 219-866-8108 or write Bernard Bailey, 6156 N 500 E, Wheatfield, IN 46392 or E-Mail cchary@embarqmail.com. We need a couple of sermons, resume with references and family photo.”
