Be Better At

Do you have a “be better at” list? I’m not sure why I had not started one sooner, but I have one now. I’m not sure what all will end up on it, but I’m pretty certain it will help me be a better person. Right now there are two things on my list. Both denote flaws in me that I need to focus and work on. A few weeks ago a friend I greatly respect called me out on something. My first inclination was to be upset about it, but as I considered it … they were correct. And it was something I’ve been guilty of for years. Thinking further I considered that it needed to change. That, of course led me to thinking about other things I could change to be a better person. So, I started a “be better at” list. Right now it’s short, but it will grow. Hopefully as time goes on, I will get better and some of the things on the list will move off the list. Those of us who preach spend a lot of time calling people to change their life, but do we strive to make personal changes. So, I have a list. Might you consider the same?

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted” (Galatians 6:1).

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves…” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:4).
