Running To the Burning life's of People’s Pain

There is so much made over fireman and police and military heroes, those who run into burning buildings, gunfire, and opposition. And so it should be. To run toward that which holds certain disaster shows a sacrificial spirit that ought to be applauded and celebrated. 

Today I want to celebrate YOU too. Those who run into the pain of people’s lives. You run into the pain of their marriage conflict, the pain of their depression, the pain of the poor decisions, the pain of their confusion, the pain of their doubt, the pain of their loss, the pain of their sin and its destruction. What a sacrifice those who run into burning buildings offer. But your sacrifice in hurting with others, in giving up your family time, in sleepless nights, in pleading for Heaven’s Cause, in walking the slow walk of patience as people grow, in caring for those who would do you harm. You walk into the domestic disputes, into the spiritual arguments. You speak God’s Truth’s boldly into a culture that has eschewed truth.  You love with an authenticity that those of politically opposed polls only give lip service too. You comfort where there might be conflict.

And you do this for the long haul. There will never be a telethon in your behalf, they won’t erect a monument to your sacrifice, crowds will not cheer your coming, but you do God’s Work. We thank God for you! You are our heroes. Hang in there - don’t quit.
