The Mess of Ministry
The Mess of Ministry
There will be days in our lives as preachers that we feel like we are muddling in the mess of ministry. Days like these can cause us to question our effectiveness and even make us wonder if we should remain in the work. One of the ways that we make it through these days or seasons is to remember the blessings of being a preacher. Allow me to mention a few of these great blessings.
We have the opportunity to study the most significant and the most perfect book that has ever been written every day!
In a world where there is a lot of bad news, we get to share the greatest news every week (sometimes multiple times during the week)! This Good News that we share is life-giving and life-changing!
In our “jobs,” we are surrounded by many people who share a common purpose, common goals/dreams, and a common faith!
We are fortunate to see the best people in the world, when they are at their best!
We have the blessing of helping people find joy in the darkest days of their lives!
The thrill of knowing that our work is of eternal importance. Many people speak of the lack of purpose in their jobs. Being a minister for the Lord touches the lives of people not just for the here and now, but for the there and then!
We are motivated to do our best because of God’s great love for us and our love for Him!
We have the opportunity to understand the value of each and every person.
The knowledge that we are partnering with the God of the universe, the creator of mankind, and the One who gave His life for us.
The joy of knowing that when we teach and preach God’s Word, we cannot fail!
So, my brothers, when you feel that the mess of ministry is getting a little too messy, do your best to focus on the numerous blessings of the work we do for our Lord.
