A Few Good Men
A Few Good Men
It’s been a special joy recently to spend some time with a large group of preachers. We know that preachers aren’t perfect. We know that we have our inconsistencies, our weaknesses, and sin in our lives. Like all humans preachers struggle with anger, bitterness, resentment, discouragement, lack of confidence, or even depression.
However, from my experience, I believe that preachers are some of the best men on the face of the planet. I am convinced that the vast majority of preachers love the Lord with all their hearts, they love the people of God unceasingly, and they work for God’s glory ferociously.
These men of God care deeply for people. They hurt with them, they laugh with them, and they do life with them. Preachers are involved in some of the most difficult days as well as the most joyous occasions in the life of God’s Family.
The majority of these men really want to do their best not only in ministering to others, but also in their preaching of the Word of God. Like all of you, my preaching brothers, they spend countless hours in the study of God’s Word. In addition to their study they do their best protect their marriage and their family.
These men meet with elders, deacons, and other members of their church family to discuss the work of the Lord. They counsel, encourage, lend a listening ear, and pray with anyone who needs them.
These good men hurt when they are maligned, they become angry when their families are criticized, and they long to fix every church issue or problem. These men have dedicated their lives to the most significant work in the world. We believe that, while none of us who preach are perfect, that these are the best men on the face of the earth. We thank God for each one of you and we pray that He will continually wrap His arms round you as you engage in His work.
