How Was Your Day?
We began writing these short articles several years ago when someone asked if there were resources that might encourage preachers on Monday. Our Dad often said that any church could get any preacher to move on the right Monday. There is also the thought that many preachers quit preaching on Monday. The idea is that the wrong kind of Sunday would force a man out of ministry.
We typically write these on Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Please accept my apology for getting this out so late. My Sunday and today have been packed with very little extra time. After preaching tonight, I am just now sitting in McAlister’s drinking unsweetened tea with a splash of their strawberry purée to write this article.
So how has your day been? My prayer is that you got a lot of positive feedback from your people regarding your sermons yesterday. My hope is that someone in your congregation’s leadership encouraged you by letting you know they appreciate your work. Maybe you enjoyed lunch with your wife or a friend today. Perhaps you are at home tonight enjoying your family.
We also live with the realization that today has not been a great day for some of you. Maybe your received criticism about your sermons. Perhaps the elders got on you about something you said or did. It is possible that someone reading this got fired today or is afraid that they might during the next elder’s meeting.
I can’t know the certainty of any of the statements in the previous two paragraphs, but here is what I do know. If you preached the Word of God yesterday, God is highly pleased with you, and your words from His Word blessed more than one person.
You have ministered to someone today, a member of your church family, your wife, or someone else in your family, and in doing that, you have blessed someone.
I know that God loves you, that He wants what is best for you, and that He wants you to continue working in His Kingdom. I know someone in the Family of God needs you and appreciates your life and ministry. I know that God and His people can help you get through your struggles. Thank you for what you did yesterday and today and what you will do the rest of this week. We love you and appreciate you greatly.
