This I Know

There are many things that happen in this life that we cannot fully understand. We may not be able to know why some people refuse to be obedient to the Lord. We may not understand how in the world some Christians can choose to walk away from Jesus and His Family. We don’t always know why some followers of Jesus can be so ugly and hateful to other followers of Jesus. We don’t understand how some churches can mistreat preachers and their families. We can’t understand why we might lose a spouse, a child, a parent too soon, or a close friend. We may not be able to know why we lose a relationship with someone who chooses to make the wrong decisions. We may not fully understand why we lose our good health or a job or a thousand other losses in this life. Some questions may go unanswered in this life until we enter our eternal home.

Sometimes when we focus on what we can’t know, it can be very discouraging, even to the point of becoming debilitating. It helps at times to be reminded of what we can know.

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” (Job 19:25)

“For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” (James 1:3)

“By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.” (1 John 4:13)

“By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.” (John 15:18)

“That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.” (Philippians 3:10)

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

“Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” (1 John 3:24)

“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” (1 John 3:16)

“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1)

“But I am not ashamed, because I know the one in whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12)

“Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so!”
