Commitment

It has been a tremendous joy to spend the past couple of weeks working among God’s people in Fiji. We have been blessed to teach an outstanding group of students in the School of Preaching here. These men already are and will continue to bless the Kingdom of God in this country and other countries.

An added blessing has been the opportunity to spend time with the Raiwaqa congregation. Their worship has been inspiring. Their devotion and commitment to God is an example that all Christians would do well to follow. No bells and whistles, just Biblical worship that is from the heart. The singing was beautiful. As I listened, I was overcome with emotion because of the sincerity and simplicity of their worship. Everyone sang with all their heart. The children knew the words to all the songs and joined with gusto. The prayers were heartfelt, and every aspect of their worship seemed genuine.

Being able to attend worship assemblies is a challenge for some. Several must obtain taxis to get there. Several walked from their homes. One brother told me that he walks forty-five minutes each way every time he attends. There is no A/C, the benches are hard (and somewhat uncomfortable), with no padding on the seat or the back of the seat. Sunday morning, the power went out, so we had no working microphone or fans.

Despite the difficulties and the challenges, this beautiful Family of God’s people is as committed to Him as any I’ve seen. Yes, there are struggles at times in our work for the Lord. Occasionally, God opens the door to allow us a glimpse of what it means to be committed to Him no matter what comes our way. These people will not quit, and neither should we!
