Don't Break
In understanding the Bible there are some things that come in useful. One is the ability to hear properly an analogy.
Matthew 12 tells us that Jesus was aware the Pharisees were looking for “something with which to accuse Him” (vs 14 says they wanted to destroy Him). Part of the Lord’s response to this is found as He quoted from Isaiah. In Isaiah’s inspired description of Jesus he wrote: “…a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench…” Matthew 12:20.
A reed is a hollow stalk of grain. It is hard to tell when one has been bent but simple to see a broken on. A bent reed He will not break.
Do YOU ever feel like a bruised reed? Bent by the hurts of life, stepped on and about to break, wounded? Hurt on the inside by an outside force. I’ve dealt with many a minister who felt the same. They’ve seen so much, been hurt deeply, and feel like one more hit and the’ll be gone. Your Lord is “meek and gentle” to the hurting. He is able to feel the feelings of our infirmities (Hebrews 4:15-16). And He will never break a bruised reed. He is on your side. He is for you. He will not leave you fatherless or helpless or defeated. If this is you right now, lean heavily on Him.
Don’t quit, cast your care on Him and you won’t break.
