Fear Not
When Jesus challenged the men who would become His apostles to leave their work and follow Him, He said to them, “Do not fear; from now on you will be catching people.” (Luke 5:10) When He sent them out on what we sometimes call the limited commission He said, “And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul.” (Matthew 10:28)
While talking to them about His departure, He reminded them, “Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.” (John 14:27)
It seems to be a part of human nature to be afraid. There is much about this life that we fear. This is just as true for preachers as it is anyone else. In all probability, some who are reading this are afraid. Afraid of some health issue, or family concern, or upcoming meeting with elders. Someone reading this may be afraid of the unknown, or afraid you are going to lose your job. Some of us fear isolation and loneliness.
If you are afraid right now, may I remind you that your Father is the God of all comfort and He can comfort you in any affliction. Please don’t forget that He wants what is best for you and that He will never leave you or forsake you. Remember that we have an Advocate with the Father and we can cast all of our cares on Him, knowing that He cares for us. Please don’t forget that there is nothing that impossible with God and that He is greater than any concerns that come upon us.
