AI is going to...
AI seems to be everywhere. When someone tells me their field of work I am quick to get to the question: “How is AI affecting your work/industry/field?” Every answer begins with one statement and then goes down one of two paths. Every person says some version of: “Well, it has it’s dangers…” then they either say: “but it is amazing, crazy how it helps,” or, “I can’t wait to see…” Or they say: “It’s horrible and it’s going to kill my industry, job, work…” I think the response says more about people and THIER future than the technology and it’s future. Companies who adjust and innovate with changing technology, structure, and conditions tend to thrive and those that don’t, don’t. It’s true of people too. If a persons approach is negative they may get some early traction, but they will not thrive longterm. AI will cause some trouble BUT it will also allow us to do most any work with greater speed, precision, and creativity.
So, ministry friends, “How is AI affecting your work?” I do not believe it takes the place of personal study (though it can enhance it in some ways if used corrrectly), it will not take away the impact of a personal visit, call, tough, connection, it will not pray with a person, it will not wrap loving arms around someone in tragedy. But there are some ways it can help us in our work. AI will not destroy the work you do or it’s impactful significance. So, don’t quit! You and your humanness (Romans 7:24), you and you “clayiness” (2 Corinthians 4:7), you and your “dustiness (Ps 103:14),” are much needed!
