My teams

I’d better post this now before the weekend but this has been the best of football seasons since my playing days. Combined “my teams” are 39-0. Football is one of those places I go “apart” to be refreshed. So here’s the lineup:

I’m a Titans fan and they are 8-0 and siting atop their division. It is a little of a surprise to most folks since their starting quarterback, Vince Young, went down in week one. They are winning with a strong defense and a good rushing game in a league that is pass happy.

And then my Tide is 9-0 and ranked #1 in the college football world: I’m not a Saban fan but his teams do win. We are way ahead of where I thought we’d be and I don’t really like being in first this early in the season. But I guess it is where most college fans want their team to be. I had predicted us to have 3 or 4 losses this year - and we still could :). But for the present we are undefeated. Now this week Alabama travels to LSU where they will be burning an effigy of Nick Saban on Friday night at a pep rally. They take it seriously!

Next up is my Hamilton Aggie team: They are 10-0, finished their season undefeated for the first time since 1982 I believe. I did the radio broadcast for them from 1991-97. Right now their starting quarterback is Josh Hollingsworth, a very fine young Christian who signed with Mississippi State when he could have gone a lot of places. He signed there because he was so impressed with coach Croom and the way he runs his program. Integrity. Josh actually has spoken at Spring Meadows the last two years when the lads to leaders group was heading back from the convention. His dad started at Hamilton about 20 years ago and then played at UNA and many of you will remember his uncle Gary who started with the Tide. Go Aggies.

Finally, but just as beloved at my Lipscomb Mustangs: I enjoyed about 10 years of doing radio with the best guys in the business there as we followed this perennial winner to 5 state championship games - unheard of. They haven’t lost a region game in 7 years. They are the most well coached and disciplined programs I’ve ever seen. Both my boys played there and I’ve seen it up close and personal and have seen hardly a flaw. Of course my friend Scott Tillman is the defense coordinator on this powerhouse team. They win with, man to man, smaller, slower, less athletic players who learn the system! They are 10-0 and odds on favorites to repeat as state champions.

Roll Aggie-Ti-stangs!

So, who’s your team and how do you think my seasons will end up?
