Hmmmm....should I publish this
That’s the question I often ask myself when I start blogging. There are easily as many that never see the light of day as not. I had a secretary one time that said if I ever question whether I should write or say something I probably shouldn’t. But then 1. I wouldn’t be me and 2. I’d rarely say anything....well, some would probably like that :)
One of the highlights of my every week is Monday night, No Guilt Visitation. It is so for several reasons:
I get to get our “report card” from our guests. I get to hear how we are doing in welcoming new people and these reports are glowing.
I get to meet some really neat people and hear about them and their lives. It is always an adventure and I rarely don’t come home without a great story.
I get to spend some time with our Family Life Minister. Andy Miller is tops!
This week was unique in several ways, I want to highlight one here.
We visited with one family where the dad was home but the mom was away for the evening. That’s not unusual. Often one or the other will be away, at an event, with the kids at some sport practice or at work. Two little boys as cute as could be.
They were, well, as we say “all boy!” and were running full tilt! I love kids and it was great watching them as we visited. They had some neat toys but like all boys there were cars and planes and balls and, of course a toy gun. At one point the little guy took the gun and started pointing it at Andy and me. I joked, “that’s not a real gun is it?” They can make them look so real nowadays and I was sure the little boy would say it was...he was only 3.
At that point his dad jumped out of his chair grabbed the gun as he said “well, as a matter of fact...it is!”
After Andy and I recovered from our heart attacks...mine did skip a beat or two. The dad quickly explained that he and his brother had been out shooting Sunday afternoon and his boys saw the pistols when he came home. Like all little boys seem to be they were full of questions. He decided it would be a good time to go ahead and start introducing them to gun safety. As he was doing it the preacher knocked on the door and he put the guns out of sight. All the ammunition, he assured us was upstairs, under lock and there were no bullets in the gun.
I’ve heard of preachers having a gun in their face and I’ve twice been threatened but I never thought it’d come from a three year old!
I betcha’ his wife was none to happy when he shared this story with her!
I haven’t laughed that hard after a visit in a long time...”well, as a matter of fact...it is!”, a line that will live on I’m sure.
