Platform.
Some might think me a racist ... but those will only be those who don’t know me. I couldn’t care what color you or your hair are I love you. I just love people. I get aggravated with folks with agendas and folks who step on or don’t consider the feelings of others and I hurt for those who seem to not be able to grow up. On the race thing, I’ve been a “fighter” for racial equality since I was in 5th grade and was told one of my best friends, Ken Adams couldn’t go to camp with me. I was shocked to my core when I discovered it seemed to have something to do with his skin color - I’m not sure I even realized Ken was a black guy!
In the recent election I didn’t vote for President Obama, I didn’t like some of McCain’s junk either. To be honest I suppose issues like abortion and homosexuality seem to trump issues of war stance and fiscal responsibility issues. And, I know the party that has been more in line with my beliefs on those issues hasn’t done what I hoped they would and am suspicious that many in that camp are just using that as a smoke screen to get votes, not really holding these beliefs as deeply held. I strongly maintain my freedom to not be a part of either party politically.
I find myself more and more thankful that I am FIRST a citizen of ANOTHER KINGDOM.
OK, with that as a disclaimer. As we install a new president, who I am praying for and refuse to insult I’m thinking about a couple of guys...
Poor Jeremiah Wright
Poor Al Sharpton
Poor Jessie Jackson
These guys have made their living on poor-mouthing our country, their bread and butter is to criticize how racist America is. Poor fellows they no longer have a platform. Frankly, I’m glad we have a black man who has risen to the highest office in the land! And, if Condoleezza Rice would run and win, I’d be happy that a black woman reached that office. But these fellows can’t be happy about it. They no longer have anyone to blame. They no longer have a platform.
It seems a lot of churches build their platform around some written or unwritten creed, tradition, or practice. I wish that were never true but it is. Both in denominations and in more congregations than I wish it were. Others around some group - older people and keeping them happy, younger people and catering to them. In the church we must make our SOLO platform - Jesus Christ and Him crucified! That platform is ever relevant.
