Dale’s debut
I’ve preached in some crazy places in my life. Once I preached a meeting in a cattle sale barn with my brother Jeff. They advertised it “Gospel In A Barn”. I still have one of the flyers somewhere. I preached in the “Center for Evolution and Atheism” in Dneprotrosk, Ukraine. I preached in Showbiz Pizza Place standing beside “Fatz Geronimo” - the tuxedo clad gorilla who talked to me...he did, really. In the Caribbean I preached in a bar. I stood behind the bar and the audience sat at the tables around.
But Friday night was a first. I preached at “The Met” in Hoover. The Met is an awesome minor league baseball field. Home of the Birmingham Barons (the team Michael Jordan played with). My friend, Paul Spurlin and some of his friends always put together some awesome events...Exposure, Lads to Leaders, SEC (Southeastern Evangelism Conference), etc...I love being a part of these things. Well they have struck again. This time they pulled off a “night at the park”. They had about 400 kids for the evening at Regions Field in Birmingham (The Met). They watched a Barons game, had a lock-in (yes, a lock-in) in the park, had a very neat devotional time and then watched a movie on the giant scoreboard - wow! When they do this again ---- GO! Figure out how to do it and go! It was sweeeeeetttt!
I really was honored to be a part of it. I got to throw at the first pitch for the ball game...since you weren’t there and there is no footage...I threw a 80 mph fastball high and inside (and I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale too). But regardless of where the pitch went it was very fun and I got to keep the ball :) (I’ll post a picture of the first pitch if I get one).
From there I went over to Hargis Retreat center and spoke at a retreat for the Beltline church and did my little hypnosis bit. Then I went back to the park and at about 12:30 preached to the kids at the lock-in. I must say - it was an awesome thing to be a part of.
Thanks Paul and friends.
Where’s the strangest place you’ve
ever preached?
