"the coolest thing ever..."

My friend Caleb calls it the coolest thing ever and he may be close to right.  I don't know why more churches aren't using it and I don't know why we (read I) don't use it more!  It is very simple and it is FREE! And it seems most everyone is texting these days. Here's how it works:

Go to twitter.com and set up a free account. Call it SMCOCNews (but not Spring Meadows use your congregation's name - duh :)).  Now, invite people to text "follow SMCOCNews" to the number 40404.  Then anytime you have news, a baptism, someone goes in the hospital, a big event, a death, a birth - you know, news.  Post it to the Twitter account and Voilà (French for 'to look' and means about the same as "now see this!")!  They get the word instantly.

The key is getting people to sign up free. Two cautions: 1. Don't overuse it (or underuse it for that matter). I said about 2-3 a week when we set it up but I haven't used it that much.  2. Make sure people don't subscribe if they don't have unlimited texting unless they want to.

This is the modern day "phone tree" made simple and quicker! Enjoy.
