5 Hour Energy Drink. Really!?
I love energy - wish I could take an occasional sip of pure adrenaline. I do love to sleep but while I’m told I need 9 hours a night - I’m pretty miserable if I sleep more than 6 and would rather go on about 4 or 5. When I’m “into” something it’s hard not to see the energy. But few things stink like “artificial energy.” Occasionally I overextend myself and my energies end up too diluted to be effective. I have many loves: God, Melanie, my sons, daughter-in-laws, Lucas, my siblings, the Scriptures, Spring Meadows, preaching, TJI, my preaching brothers, Maywood Christian Camp, HCU, FHU, EYC, unique gadgets and technologies, I could go on...and I love loving and putting my energies into these things.
Last night riding back from preaching at a congregation not far from home I was doing one of those things that I don’t get to do often enough. I had my radio on listening to a live baseball game. It took me back to Christmas 1978. I had gotten a radio for Christmas and that fall I had also gotten my own “private” room. Up till then my brother, Carey and I had pretty much shared a two rooms that led into each other. One night I picked up on that little radio the Chicago Cubs playing on WGN 720 - what I now know was a designated “clear channel.” I was amazed. I was not a baseball fan but listening to it on the radio was, well, comforting in a way. And ever since whenever I run across baseball on radio it is refreshing. For a tournament or two ten years or so ago I broadcast a couple of baseball games myself. But, as brother Franklin Camp used to say, enough about that.
During one of the commercial breaks I heard an ad for “5-Hour Energy” drinks. They claim “hours and hours of energy” from the little two ounce bottle. That and with no calories and no sugar seems amazing. The ad mentioned that “5-Hour” is available in about five flavors and in extra strength (I suppose just for Superman). And, now ... Wait for it ... Wait for it ... Available in caffeine-free! What? I’m very confused. Why would someone who is using a drink for energy not want caffeine? Am I the only one who sees this as very strange? Am I the only one who wonders how in the world they came up with that concept? Am I missing something? I’m sure I am - maybe?
No real point to this post other than to ask this: Where are you putting your genuine energies?
