"I WILL NEVER BE LOST!"

We recently hosted our annual “Sending Them Off With Prayer” Night. It has become one of our favorite events each year. We pray for everyone involved in the beginning of a new school year. If you are not doing something like this in your home church please allow me to encourage you to do so. If you have questions about how it is done please feel free to contact me.

This year we added something new. We gave Bibles to all of our children who are entering the first grade. We called them to the front of the building with their parents and I presented them with a Bible. They were all excited and it was a great night for all of us.

One of our parents sent me a picture of her little girl in bed the night before her first day of school and she is holding her Bible.

Another one of our students came up to me during the next church service and said, “Mr. Jeff, look, I brought my new Bible!”

Another parent sent me the following story about her daughter.

“Avery was SO EXCITED tonight when she received her bible at church. She quickly noticed it had a map in the back. She looked up at me and said, ‘Mommy look it has a map, now I will never be lost.’ I smiled at her and thought to myself, you are right...this Bible is your map so you will never be ‘lost.’"

How precious is that? What’s that old saying, “out of the mouth of babes.” Not sure if this precious little girl realizes it or not but she has spoken a deep theological truth!

THE BIBLE IS OUR ROADMAP TO HEAVEN. As we navigate the path of life the Bible guides us through the rough places, the dark places, the hills, and the valleys. (Psalm 119:105)

THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY BOOK THAT WILL KEEP US FROM BEING LOST. I’m certainly not opposed to reading. In fact, I love reading. It is one of my favorite pastimes.

We can gain insight, encouragement, and strength from reading good books, but there is no book other than the Word of God that will lead us to Heaven.

THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY BOOK THAT CAN KEEP US FROM SIN. David said, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11) The Word of God contains the answer to sin, the remedy for sin, and the freedom from sin that we all desperately need.

THE BIBLE ANSWERS LIFE’S TOUGHEST QUESTIONS. The answers offered in the Bible are time-tested. They have proven to work over and over again.  In God’s Word we read about real people who faced the same issues that we face in our lives.

THE BIBLE PROVIDES COMFORT & STRENGTH FOR DIFFICULT DAYS. One of the greatest blessings of the Word of God is the fact that we can find comfort during tough times.

“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) The God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-5) has a door that is always open to offer us comfort, strength, and hope.

Many seek answers to life’s questions from other sources. Many turn away from the Word of God and depend on the ideas, thoughts, and words of others.

Thanks Avery,  for reminding all of us that as long as we have the Bible will never be lost.

Dear Father, we give You thanks for your marvelous Word. Help us to remember that as long as we have the Bible we will never be lost. Help us dear God, to cling to Your Word, to follow Your Word, to gain strength from Your Word, and most of all to obey Your Word. In the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
