Saturated Saturdays:

Running through my head and heart this snowy Saturday morning. Still looking for a name for this...

Been an interesting week: Monday, thanks to Shelia Butt, I was invited to lead the prayer for the opening legislative session of the Tennessee House of Representatives.  It was a neat night to be there as the Governor presented the State of the State Address.  As I sat in the marbled walled and crimson draped bedecked hall among roughly 150 elected Senators and Representatives and the attendants serving them the thought went through my mind how intoxicating the hall of power are.

Is there anything better than Green Hatch Table Sauce at Chuy’s?  Took Melanie there on a date last night. I could drink that stuff!

After “Promo Monday” I heard from Bart Warren, who be the way is an amazing young man, he told me about a couple of things the Warren Center is doing!  Youth Weekend Apologetics Training Camp at Concord Road, March 15-16, 2013 http://www.warrenapologeticscenter.com/resources/217faith.html. Debate concerning the existence of Christ (including Ralph Gilmore) on May 9, 2013 http://www.warrenapologeticscenter.com/resources/spring-apologetics-lectures.html. Both look fabulous.

It got Jeff and me thinking.  Once every quarter (or six months), we’ll test it. We are going to run a list of events. We can’t run every VBS, meeting, etc, across the U.S. and there are some things we wouldn’t run, but we want to use our site to help share good stuff. Your thoughts?

Really? We get up at 6 on a Saturday morning to “hear” a groundhog tell us if it is going to be an early Spring? Really? It’s 26 degrees and snowing outside and we need a groundhog? Really? By the way he says Spring is coming early this year - yea! :)

Ever say anything you regret? Yeah, me too.

I will head to Freed-Hardeman University on Sunday it is a favorite place and time of mine. I will see family, I will see thousands of my favorite people, I will miss my dad.  The singing will be powerful, the lessons well prepared the prayers heartfelt. And the food - ahhh - Brooksie’s, Bell’s Diner, Jack’s Creek B-B-Que, and maybe Ole’ Country Store.  My older son Philip will speak, my dad’s cousin Ancil will speak, our youth minister here at SM, Scott will speak.   I wrote this sitting in chapel there last year.

My Super Bowl winner?  I really don’t care. I’ll listen to it riding to FHU. This has been my Super Bowl tradition for 15 year or longer now. Preach on Sunday night and leave from the building to the lectures listening to it on the radio. It’s pretty fun to hear it on the radio.  It’s on 450 stations and is the most listened to radio broadcast every year.

I am a fan of Duck Dynasty but wonder how long their fame will last? The thing is they were good people and successful in their work and lives before the cameras came on. I don't think their lives will crumble if "fans" stop following them.

Listening to four guys in their 20’s preach recently I was struck by how preaching styles differ and how they change. I wonder if ANY of those guys will preach like most preachers preach today in 10 years? Maybe one of them. But there, it appears to me, has been another shift in presentation style.  Not sure what to call this one. They were all biblical and did a good job with the text but there was a distinct difference in the style.

By the way, the picture is of our Laura's dad and sweet Holley Kate. He was very sick a while back but has continued to make good progress. And, hey, is there a cuter girl anywhere?

I became a “backer” of the Pebble watch about a year ago. It is a Kickstarter project. About 6 months behind the proposed delivery date but is now shipping. I’ll keep you posted.
