Summer Series Speaker Salaries

A few years back, I was responsible for getting the amounts we were paying our Summer Series Speakers to our treasurer. He is fiscally a VERY conservative man, a retired IRS enforcer (and a good man). He replied to the email list I gave him that included the amounts to pay each by saying: “It is amazing how little we pay these guys. There is no other speaking field where a guy would be paid that little.” I found his statement stunning. I actually felt like we paid BETTER than most. It might be worth an OVERALL discussion of, NOT, if we are where others are, but is what we pay good? Good leaders: The men you have in do not do this to get rich, BUT you might ask yourself if YOU would do the prep, driving, and time away from work and family for what the congregation there pays.
