WHY?

Paul writes in Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” As we go through life, we have to pause and examine ourselves, our hearts and our motives. So as ministers’ wives, why do we do what we do?

If our “why” is to live up to the expectations of others, then we will grow weary and discontented.

If our “why” is to impress others, then we will become depressed when what we do goes unnoticed.

If our “why” is about seeking approval, we will be crushed when others are unkind or critical.

Why do we do what we do? Why do we serve in ministry? We do it because of Jesus! We do what we do out of grateful hearts, because we get to relate to Jesus based on what He has done for us and not what we have done to prove ourselves worthy. Isn’t this GOOD news?! In return, we dedicate our lives to serving and glorifying Him. We all know this, but I think times come when we need to reflect and check our motives. We must remind ourselves that Jesus is our “why”. It is all for Him.

Remembering this truth will help us through tough times. When others are critical or when ministry is tough, we might be tempted to stop serving with “all of our hearts”. We have to remind ourselves that we do what we do for Him - not for the critic, not to impress others, not for approval. We are serving and ministering to glorify our Savior. Our “why” is Jesus. He is our Savior, and He loves us so very much!

Let’s work and serve with all our hearts, because He is our “why”!

In Him,
