The Hard Weeks
The Hard Weeks
Some weeks are just tough! I’m sure you have been there. Days when you are asking yourself, what else could go wrong?
The past couple of weeks our community has been flooded with an incredibly heavy amount of tragedy. Our hearts have been broken and it’s been a week that you long for Jesus to take it all away. Frequently I ask, how do people who don’t know Jesus process heartache?
Another question comes to mind. As a minister’s wife, how do I comfort others when I am overwhelmed with sadness?
Truthfully, sometimes you just can’t! And that’s okay. Let me say that again. That’s okay! It’s really okay for the minister or the minister’s wife to need to say I’m overwhelmed. If Jesus can, so can we!
In Mark 6:30-32, Jesus had sent the disciples out to minister and when they returned, He encouraged them to separate from the people who were following them to rest.
In Matthew 14:1-13, after Jesus learned about the incredibly heartbreaking news of John the Baptist, he went away by Himself to grieve.
Finally, in Luke 22:39-44, hours before Jesus was arrested he went to the Mt. of Olives to rest, get away and grieve what was about to happen.
In the hard weeks don’t forget what Jesus modeled for us. Take time to get away. You need time to process your grief. Jesus felt overwhelmed, too. It’s okay not to be ok!
