Holy Spirit in Acts 2:38

Good brethren have differed over the years concerning "the gift of the Holy Spirit" in Acts 2:38. Which view of Acts 2:38 best reflects your understanding? (Thanks to Mike Vestal for this week's poll idea).
The "gift of the Holy Spirit" in Acts 2:38 refers to salvation or eternal life.
The "gift of the Holy Spirit" in Acts 2:38 refers to the conveying of miraculous gifts through the laying on of the apostles' hands.
The "gift of the Holy Spirit" in Acts 2:38 refers to giving of the Spirit Himself, in a non-miraculous way, to those who repent and are baptized.
I hold a view that differs from all the above.
I do not have an opinion on this.
