YESTERDAY, TOMORROW and THE NEXT DAY…
Yesterday you stood before God’s People with God’s Word and spoke, taught, encouraged, admonished, explained, gave meaning, rebuked, corrected - preached. No doubt some of you preached about obligations to our God concerning the elections this week, others of you made a reference to it. And some of you spoke volumes by choosing to totally exclude any mention of it. But regardless I trust you prayed for “all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way” (1 Timothy 2:2). And now, it’s Monday and if the Lord does not return tomorrow will be Tuesday and if He does not return the day after that will be Wednesday. And on this Monday you will encounter godly people who are fearful the foundations of the earth are being shaken - assure them the Lord is in His Heaven and His Day is set and immovable. And on Tuesday you will encounter sinful people who be convinced that if their candidate does not win our republic cannot survive - point them to the eternal King whose “shall never be destroyed…it shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44). And on Wednesday you will meet people who are disappointed, some even despondent - remind them of Him who is Faithful (1 Corinthians 1:9), who cannot lie (Titus 1:2), who will not allow us to face more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 1:10) and who will be with us always (Matthew 28:20). For some this will be a hard week but for those of us in ministry it is an open door to spread the Good News, an opportunity to point strugglers to Jesus, and a reason to have faith. May God bless and use you this week. We love you, are thankful for you, and praise God because of your work.
