It's Happening

Today you poured your soul into a sermon. As you advanced the Word, you spotted one watching their watch. As you preached the peace of God, someone perused on their page. As you reasoned on judgement, someone judged your attire. As you presented the Christ of the cross someone played with the cute cuddly child in front of them. As you urged urgency, someone wondered how much longer you’d go on. As you presented with passion someone tended to their child. As you talked about eternity someone texted their spouse about where they would go for lunch. As you unfolded the plan of God, someone uploaded a picture to their instagram. As you presented proofs for the Faith, someone reproved your grammar. As you plead for souls to come to the Savior, someone planned their week. As you spoke of the love of God, someone spotted a sister with whom they have a grievance. As you presented perseverance, someone wondered when you’d move. As you prayed for the flock, someone gossiped about your schedule. As you struggled against your own sinfulness, someone forgot that you too are human.

But there was a little girl, younger than you would imagine, drinking in every word. There was a couple struggling in their marriage who found a lifeline. There was a depressed young man who left with the energy to face another week. There was an elderly sister whose soul was encouraged and faith reinforced. There was a college student who left prepared to face those who oppose Christianity in his dorm. There was a little boy who drew your likeness who wants to be like you - a man of God. There was an elder whispering, thank God he stands for truth. There was a sinner convicted of their error and committed to doing better. There was an elderly man who buried his wife who, just your smile gave him hope.

And there was God in Heaven thinking “well done.”

There’s a lot that goes on as you hold forth the Word of Life. But it’s worth it.
