You Are Different (In a Good Way)!

Our brother Paul, writes the following words to his friend and fellow preacher (as well as to all of us who are preachers): “To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.” (Titus 1:15)

Among other things, this passage teaches us that there is a clear distinction between those who are Christians and those who are not. The child of God will look at everything, make decisions, and even see others through pure eyes. We should not be surprised when non-Christians choose to live the way they do. They can’t think pure thoughts because their minds and consciences are clouded.

If I can relate this thought to those of us who preach. There is a real sense in which we think and live differently than other people, even other Christians. We should not be surprised to know that many will not understand our work, our plans, our goals, our dreams.

It may help us when we feel alone or when we feel like giving up, to realize that there is One who understands. He was a preacher. He was a perfect preacher and they still refused to hear Him, they mocked Him, they ridiculed Him, they ostracized Him, they ran Him out of town, and they even killed Him.

Dear brothers, when you struggle with people, with ministry, with life, take heart. Remember that some of God’s greatest men struggled as well. Remember that many will not understand these struggles, but you have many fellow preachers who do, and you have an older Brother who understands. “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.”
