The End of Something
During a recent visit with my buddy, Paul Shero, we were discussing the current state of the church due to what we’ve dealt with during this year.
We were talking about how much of what we’ve been through has been discouraging and disheartening. Our conclusion as that those of who preach have a lot of great reasons to bear up under the current crises and keep moving forward.
One of the blessings during a difficult year has been the opportunity to reach more people with the Good News than ever before.
Paul told me about a non-Christian friend who has been listening to his sermons online. He probably wouldn’t have come to hear Paul preach, but he might now. In a conversation his friend said, “Preacher, do you think this is the end of time?”
Paul’s brilliant response, “I don’t know if it’s the end of time, but it’s the end of something!” I love that response.
It could be the end of time. Discussing the end of time, Jesus said, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.”
It could be the end of the pandemic, the end of wearing masks, the end of social distancing, the end of isolation, or the end of churches not being able to worship together as a Church family.
It could be the end of marriages breaking up simply because, “we don’t get along,” or what if it’s the end of Fathers being absent in the raising of children?
What if this proved to be the end of division in church families, lethargic Christianity, small thinking in doing the work of the Lord, and greedy giving?
No doubt, it’s the end of something. Let’s do our part in helping it be the end of anything detrimental to the work of God, and the beginning of a new day in the Kingdom!
