Will We Be Ready?
The current crisis that has seemingly turned our world upside down, will someday come to an end. Everybody will go back to work & our kids will go back to school. We will go back to actually sitting down in restaurants with family and friends. Arenas & stadiums will be packed with people eager to watch their favorite teams.
And…and, we will assemble with our church families where we will shake hands, hug each other, worship together, and enjoy sweet fellowship.
If this crisis follows the pattern of previous trying times (i.e., Gulf War, 9/11, etc.), we will see an immediate spike in church attendance. Some will walk through our doors who haven’t been in a long time. Others will be searching, listening to see if we have anything substantive to offer.
The question is when life returns to normal, will the people of God be ready? Will we be ready to preach the life-changing, soul-stirring, Good News about Jesus? Will we be ready to show first-time guests what it means to follow Him? Will we be ready to welcome folks who haven’t been to “church” in many years? Will we be ready to serve? Will we be ready to walk through all of the doors that God will open for us?
It seems that this “down” time serves as a great opportunity for us to be intentional in our prayers and our plans. This seems like a great time to organize, prepare, and rally our people to be prepared to act.
Preachers, it may well be that we are here for such a time as this. This is not the time to grow weary. This is the time to grow ready! Let’s prepare sermons that will enrapture, educate, edify, embolden, and enlist a great force for God. Let’s be ready to lead the charge to a renewal of the Family of God. Are we up for it? Will we be ready?
