What Can We Do Now?

Two young boys were arguing about who should get the biggest pancake at breakfast. The mom said, “If Jesus was here, He would give His brother the biggest pancake.” The oldest brother said to his younger brother, “You be Jesus today!”

Brothers, what our world may need from us more than anything else right now, is for us to be Jesus today.

The world needs to see us love like Jesus. That means to love people unconditionally. It means to love our families, our neighbors, and our fellow Christians. It also means that we must love our enemies and people who we might think don’t deserve to be loved.  We must love people who don’t look like us and even those who don’t act like us.

The world needs to see us serving like Jesus. Our first thought should be that we are here to serve and not to be served.

The world needs to see us living like Jesus. When God’s preachers act like Jesus and not like those who don’t know the Lord, we bless everyone around us. As well, we will have better opportunities to tell them about Christ when we live like Him.

The world needs to hear the Good News from us. In a world that is bombarded with bad news every single day, we have an opportunity to share the Gospel of Hope. Our Savior said that He came to fulfill this Scripture. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

May this verse become an anthem for God’s men during these days. Brothers, the world and the Church needs us now, perhaps as much or more than at any time in our lives.
