300 little words
Sticks and stones
May break my bones
But words
Can never hurt me.
Anyone who has been involved in ministry knows those words are not true. In fact words have hurt most of us much longer and cut much deeper than a stick or a stone. Those words are hopeful thinking at best, delusional at worst.
Words are powerful!
Words have changed our lives:
I love you
You’re fired
It’s cancer
Congratulations it’s a boy
Or the most life changing:
I believe that Jesus Christ in the Son of God.
God believes in the power of words:
“The Word became flesh and came and dwelt among us…” - John 1:14
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” - Romans 10:17
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” - hebrews 4:12
“He replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it’” - Luke 11:28
For 70 months now, 275 weeks, we have sent out 300 words each Sunday night or Monday. 300 words over 275 weeks is 82,500 words. A number of you have indicated these have come at significant moments for you. We’re thankful someone asked where we go for Monday encouragement. That lead to the “Don’t Quit” series and it’s five books so far.
But it’s just words.
Your turn. What could you do with 300 words each week? Who in your family, your congregation, your network of friends and connections could use a few words to uplift them today? To give them the heart to go forward?
