Quit...So You Don't Have to Quit
We began writing these 300ish words of encouragement for preachers around five years ago. We have penned more than 250 of them. These short articles can now be found in five books under the title, “Don’t Quit on a Monday,” etc.
You may notice that in the informational snippet each week we write, “Each week we provide a short article to encourage Preachers on Monday. Many times by the end of the day on Sunday we find ourselves emotionally, physically, and mentally drained from pouring ourselves out before the Lord and His people. Our prayer is that this little article that we call 4youR Monday will help Renew, Refresh, Reboot, and Reset you in the coming days.”
We live with the reality that there are occasions where a preacher will need to step down or he may be forced to do so. We have seen this many times throughout the year. It is my personal conviction that we might be able to circumvent having to step down (we wouldn’t have to quit) if we quit some other things. Think with me about a few of these, and if you have others please share them. Most or none of these may apply to you personally, however, if you are in a constant state of wanting to quit, this might be something to consider.
Quit working so many hours that you don’t have time for your wife, your children, and yourself. Your family needs you. Sometimes we hide behind, “I’m doing the Lord’s work.” Brothers, strengthening our marriages and being present for our children, IS THE LORD’S WORK!”
Quit taking on the role of brotherhood watchdog, brotherhood problem solver, and/or brotherhood knower of all things.
Quit believing it is necessary for you to be involved in every event, every ministry, and every work of the Church.
Quit studying ONLY for sermons/classes and study for your own spiritual health.
Quit thinking you always have to “on” and “up.” If we are not careful we will cause our Church family to think we somehow believe we are perfect. Every human goes through some down times in life, and in spite of what some may think, we are all human.
Quit trusting in yourself to fix all of the problems in your congregation that are wrong and trust the Lord to take care of His Church.
Quit thinking that the Church can’t survive without you.
Quit trying to do the work of elders. Allow them to do the work God has assigned them to do, and you do your work.
We love you! The Lord’s people and the world need you.
