Sunday went well...then
Sunday went well. A new week. A new slate. Then Monday hit. And Monday turned into another Monday, followed by another, followed by, it seemed a string of Mondays. And before you could turn around it was Saturday night and you found yourself, yet again, scrambling. You’ve been there before and you’ll be there again. Speaking in behalf of all of those who understand to those of you who do not, get over your non-procrastinating, always prepared self. We live in a real world where every day presents a truckload of distractions that are labeled “Ministry: Urgent.” And, yes, Stephen Covey, the urgent does get in the way of the important, but what do you do when a sister or brother is going through a crisis and calls. If you are a minister, you set the well-intentioned sermon time aside and rush to the hospital, bedside, intervention, call, and do the urgent. Because people are urgent and important.
Speaking to those who get it: Thank you. Thank you for living a life set so totally to full-throttle that Saturdays are hard, and sometimes discouraging. Thank you for not being the best presenter because you are the best minister. Thank you for stepping into the chaos of others, thereby creating a challenge for your preaching. Thank you for having the heart of a minister. I wish I could say it’ll get better, it probably won/t, but that’s OK, rest comes in “The Morning.” And in the meantime you are imitating the Lord.
And to those of you who are always prepared. We love you too, in fact, most Saturdays we wish we were you. Don’t you quit either.
