We Are All the Same
We Are All the Same
During the past couple of weeks my preaching schedule has taken me from Houston to Denver to Lakeland, FL to Lubbock to Blossom, TX, and back home for a couple of days. It has been a tremendous blessing to visit with hundreds of preachers during this time.
Even though we live in many different locations and come from varying backgrounds and cultures, it is easy to see that we are all basically the same. We all understand, at least intellectually, that the precious blood of Jesus has redeemed us. We know that there is no way to save ourselves, and without Jesus, we are nothing.
We all love the Kingdom, and we all have the same desire to do our part to strengthen and build up the Lord’s people. We all have dreams, goals, and plans. We all have the same fears, trepidations, and concerns.
We worry about whether we are spending enough time with our families, studying enough, visiting enough, how our leaders feel about our work, and doing what pleases our Master.
Some of us wonder if our job is in jeopardy and if we will have enough money to pay this month’s bills. But, on the other hand, some of us feel like we are burning the candle too close to both ends and if our health will hold out.
All of us spend many hours praying for our families and others. We also spend countless hours studying and praying about this Sunday’s sermon. Yet, some have this nagging, terrible feeling that we might not be able to keep doing this work.
If you find yourself in that place today, my prayer is that you will reach out to another preacher or church leader or close friend that you trust who can pray with you and counsel you with wisdom and discernment. Please don’t ever forget that you are loved by our Lord and by many of His people. Please don’t ever forget that you are precious and valuable to Him.
