Days Like This
With apologies to Van Morrison, someone told me there'll be days like this. You've probably heard it from several people, maybe even preachers, and you've probably experienced it in your work.
Days when your sermon doesn't seem to connect
Days when the song service seems to drag along
Days when it's challenging to find enough men to participate in the worship
Days when NOBODY tells you that you did a good job
Days when someone tells you about a word you mispronounced or a scripture reference you missed
Days when one person stands at the door and monopolizes your time to the degree that you can't get to that family who is visiting for the first time
Days when you are so weary from work during the past week that your energy level isn't where you want it to be
Days when the sound system isn't working correctly
Days when the ppt fails
Days when a baby is crying so loudly that everyone is distracted and the parents refuse to take them out
Days when the worship assembly feels dry and lifeless
Days when you wonder if you should keep doing this because you not only didn't hit a home run, you barely eked out a single
Days when your wife tells you she doesn't feel like she has one friend in the congregation, and she doesn't even want to attend worship
Days when other children mistreat your child because they are a PK
Days when you know you've done something wrong and the guilt of it eats at your soul
Days when you are ready to throw in the towel because it's all so overwhelming
When you have days like this, remember that you are not alone. Remember that many of God's most incredible men experienced similar days. Remember that the Lord will never leave you or forsake you. Remember that you are loved by the vast majority of God's people. Finally, remember that we are doing the most significant work in the world, even in our weakest moments!
