One Sentence
You know, a raise now and then would be nice. I’ve gone years at a time without one and wondered what that meant.
You know, a pat on the back would be special. Sometimes it seems I have remembered more stabs in the back than pats.
You know, a reciprocation of your “I feel honored to be your preacher,” would be super cool. But that never seemed to happen.
You know, a sabbatical would be special. But, as my friend Jerrie says, sometimes dirt gets to rest more than we do.
You know, a public word of support when dealing with a sensitive text/subject would feel good. Often though, it seems leaders aren’t quite prepared to do so.
Some of you probably get some of these things, some of you get more than your fair share, and some of you may get all of the things mentioned above.
Yes, they would be nice, but they are not why you do this. There is One sentence you want to hear and it will be enough: “Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your lord” (Matthew 25:23). Yes, that one sentence is worth keeping on for. One sentence that covers a lifetime. One sentence that makes everything worth it. One sentence.
