PtP Scooping...

Monday and Tuesday I'm at a favorite event of mine. Polishing the Pulpit is becomeing more and more a "can't miss event" on my calendar. The practical approach of the planners, the huge listing of offerings, and the sheer number of people (nearly 2500 this year) to enjoy time with all combine to make it very special. I'm speaking six times in the two days I'm here and loving hanging out with some of my friends and making new ones. In some ways it is like a lectureship, in others like a workshop. It is a paid event and not cheap but it is not cheaply done!  First class all the way!  Some have said these types of programs are dead - they should study PtP in Pigeon Forge. Monday they did something new. They did a "meet and greet" with churches looking for preachers and preachers looking for churches.  I enjoyed "hosting" the "speed dating" session :) and think it may have feet!  On to the scoops:

Brendan Chance scoops himself. He has worked the last several years with the College Avenue church in Enterprise, AL.  Brendan will be moving to work as the associate with the Austinville congregation in Decatur.

As a result College Avenue will be looking to fill his spot. Here is Brendan's take: "It's an Associate & Youth Minister position. Duties are mostly youth but also include preaching, visiting, working with the education program, etc. The congregation is about 225. Enterprise is growing city of around 27,000 in southeast Alabama with a very good school system (brand new state of the art high school). Camp Wiregrass is 20 minutes from the church and the camp offices are in the church building. Wiregrass Christian Academy is also located in the church facility. Contact Keith Ellis, the pulpit minister,  if interested @ 334-406-1200 or keith@4familyhelp.com"

The following scoop to Steve Kirby: The Whitehouse Church of Christ is looking for a preacher. For more go to: www.whcoc.com

The preacher at the Rutledge, TN congregation is retiring.  They are the only congregation in Grainger county and have about 30 members. They're located 40 miles northeast of Knoxville Tn. on route 11.  Contact William French bigyabo@frontiernet.net or phone: 865 767-3812.

The following scoop to our friend Matthew Haitt: The minister at the Enon Church of Christ in Webb, AL, near Dothan is moving. The only contact I could find is a phone number: (334) 899-8085.

We reported sometime back that the Goodman Oaks congregation at Southaven, Mississippi has a new preacher who began his work last Sunday.  He is Derek McNamara a native of Limerick, Ireland.

This scoop from Tim Deen via Blaine Kelly:  The Orange Avenue church in Eustis, FL has an opening. It is a congregation of about 350 members (grows to over 400 in winter), and is where James Moore of Mount Dora Home and Bible School and much of the staff there attend. They also provides oversight for the Spiritual Growth Workshop held every two years in Orlando.  They have 7 Elders, a youth minister (Lonnie Johnson, former FSU and NFL star), and are a very active congregation.  You can learn more  at www.oacoc.org.

So there you have it. Send more scoops soon!
