MI: Scoop to Tim Alsup: The Escanaba church is seeking a full-time minister. They are a located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The current minister, Dave Grant, is seeking to retire after many years in the pulpit and service. “Dave is a righteous man who succeeded his father’s long-tenure” there. We are now seeking to mentor and work with a younger or newer preacher (including possible preaching school graduates who are seeking to serve a congregation in full-time work for The Lord). They are a congregation of about 55 members. The men of the congregation are currently taking turns preaching and teaching. They currently have three elders who are Godly and Biblically knowledgeable men, leaders and shepherds. The congregation serves an area that comprises almost 20,000 souls in three contiguous communities (Escanaba, Gladstone, and Bark River). They publish a UP-wide monthly brotherhood update tri-fold and the work has also included “Let The Bible Speak” (www.letthebiblespeak.net). While currently reaching and impacting lives, they seek to launch additional efforts to reach souls in and out of a church building setting, aided by a new preacher. They can afford a livable salary (financial support, other benefits and moving allowance are negotiable). Most of the members are strong in the faith and a younger or recent preaching school graduate, or a hard-working preacher with limited experience, could benefit greatly with guidance and help from the Escanaba congregation. A “polished” preacher would be desirable, but the main requirements are Biblical soundness, the heart of a Christian and a spiritually focused worker for The Lord. Their goal with such a minister would be to find the perfect balance between him and the current body, as they grow together in the Lord in spreading the word to the lost. They are not expecting a preacher for life (though that is not unwelcome) or one that has totally polished skills. That does not necessarily suggest a short tenure. The “work in the Upper Peninsula is not easy, but the rewards are great. Most of the eight or so churches of Christ are small – in places where Catholicism dominates.” If you have any additional questions, or would like to speak with John R. Irby of the Preacher Search Committee, feel free to reach out 901 292-9447 johnrobertirby@gmail.com. Escanaba church of Christ 5079 18th Road PO Box 751 Escanaba, MI 49829.
