Holidays?
Easter, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, New Years: Does it seem to you there has come an almost unspoken expectation that you will speak to every holiday? The time existed when the only reference would be to the fact that we are never told to celebrate these days. But now, you just let a Mother’s Day pass without a healthy and prolonged reference and I’ll be happy to help your in your impending move. And it’s not that hard to come up with a Father’s Day sermon or two - but I’ve preached 36 straight - Sometimes I wonder what’s left to say?
I want to remind you of what you already know. Our obligation falls into one simple line: “Preach the Word.” In season, out of season, when people like it, when they don’t, when it’s easy, when it’s hard, Christmas, Father’s Day, the third Sunday in October, when you are happy, when you are ready to quit, when you feel good, when you feel like a Mac Trunk ran over you - preach the Word. Do it with love, conviction, passion, connection, preparation - preach the Word. When you do you will never run out of material, you will never run out of Truth and you will always be pleasing to God. Preach the Word - there’s plenty There always. I hope you had a grand day yesterday - and - in God’s eyes you did if you did that one thing. Have a super week and know God is proud of your efforts in His behalf.
