In His Steps

At times, we hear someone talking about being, “self-made,” or “doing things my way,” or “making my own way,” or “working through your difficulties by yourself.” Sometimes, we preachers pride ourselves in our ability to take care of ourselves and figuring out life on our own. All the previous statements sound good and noble; however, you can be certain that there will come a season in life when we find out how wrong we are with these types of statements.

Jesus says, “With God all things are possible,” “Come unto Me all you who labor and or heavy laden,” and, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed.” These are not just cute little verses or nice sayings. These Scripture references describe who our Savior really is and what His strength makes possible for us.

Surely, we have learned by now that can’t fix our lives by ourselves. If we are going to do better and be better, we must lean on Him. If we are going to overcome our weaknesses and the problems, we encounter in life we must be willing to cast all our cares on Him.

If we are going to meet the new challenges that we encounter, we must rely entirely on Him, knowing this is the only we can remain faithful and strong in our work for Him. Preachers, if we feel mistreated, overworked, marginalized, and undervalued, there is no need for us to cease our work for Him and throw in the towel. It is during these times that we should follow in His steps even more. “While being abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.” (1 Peter 2:23)
