When Not to Quit

When Not to Quit

A friend discovered our “Don’t Quit” books and said this, “So when can you quit? On a Friday? Saturday? Sunday? 😂😂😂 I’m sorry but I didn’t know y’all had all of those titles…”

I’m not sure when to tell you to quit, but I’d like to talk to you about not quitting.

You don’t quit when you get your feelings hurt. You toughen up because this work is bigger than your feelings.

You don’t quit when someone doesn’t like your preaching. You evaluate and get better or ignore and move on.

You don’t quit when you are tired. You refresh and relax and recharge and move forward.

You don’t quit when you are discouraged. You drink deep from God’s Word and find your joy.

You don’t quit when you make a mistake. You strive to correct it, repenting if you need to, and remember that all of God’s Servants sin.

You don’t quit when you’re fired, you learn what you can from that experience, improve as needed and be better.

You don’t quit when you feel lonely. You remember Elijah’s inability to count who is on God’s side, and Elisha’s words to his servant (“Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” - 2 Kings 6:16) and pray for open eyes.

You don’t quit when the road seems long and fruitless. You pray asking the Lord for a spirit of endurance.

You don’t quit when you lose your confidence. You re-evaluate where your confidence is placed and trust in the Lord.

You don’t quit when the work seems overwhelming and unending. You remind yourself that God never asks more of any person than they can do. We know some of you might be thinking about quitting today. If that is you, why not step back, remember why you do this, and reconsider. Give it another try. God may have you in that challenging place and this hard time to use you for some great purpose that will benefit the Kingdom in ways only you can fulfill.

It’s not a sin to not be in paid ministry, but we encourage you to not leave too quickly. To hang in there if you can. The Lord needs every faithful servant. Don’t quit.
