Feeling Alone

Feeling Alone

In my unofficial polling through the years, I’ve learned that when a preacher decides to quit, it’s because he feels alone. It may be that he lives in an isolated area and isn’t close to any other preachers who can walk beside him.

He might not feel close to his elders, or he doesn’t have any elders. Sometimes, his wife may not be as supportive and encouraging as he feels he needs. It is also highly possible that he has gone through a dry season in his spiritual life. During times like these, that we may all endure at some point, it may seem like the Lord has left us.

If you find yourself in one of these seasons now and feel alone, may I encourage you to reach out to someone with everything I have in me? Find someone who will listen. Find someone who will understand. You might be surprised how much help it can be to you.

If we live long enough, we will eventually figure out that we cannot make it through this life peacefully, successfully, or faithfully without Jesus and the help of others. If this is an unavoidable reality, and we believe it is, why do we as human beings keep trying to make it alone? Even if we don’t have others close to us or who offer us help, we still have Jesus. Even when we feel like we are going through a dry time in our lives spiritually, we should remember that we still have Jesus. His faithful promise to us is that He will never leave us alone. He will never forsake us. We can come to Him for rest and peace at any time! Praise God for the Gift of His Son to us!!
