Men of God, Pray
Men of God, Pray
Did you like those moments a few weeks ago following Damar Hamlin collapsing on the field on Monday Night Football? Seasoned television anchors, football players, coaches, and it seemed the whole world for a moment decided to ignore the narrative our culture has force fed us for years and said “forget this, we are going to pray, we dare you to challenge us, fire us, try to cancel us.”
I bet none of those people began their prayer life that day; they had been praying every day for most of their lives. It’s just that prayer came out of the closet that week. I’m certain I don’t agree or align with much of what any of those folks believe, but I do believe in prayer. I do love it when someone uses the Lord’s name in a positive way, when someone believes. Jeff and I have been in India the last several days. As I write this, we are still here. We are visiting a microcosm of the churches here, a very small look at the estimated 20 million members of the Lord’s mighty church here. We preach, teach, greet, shake hands with, and then as we are leaving one person after another will pull us to them and ask us to pray for them. As if… do they think I am that important. Do they think a man with fair skin from the USofA has some magical formula? I can’t say what they are thinking. BUT I do know this. They are just doing what the Bible says. They believe, right or wrong, that we are Men of God, and that the prayer of a righteous man avails much. I certainly have no feelings of righteousness of myself, but I strive to be a man of God, I strive to live right. So, are they so far off?
And, you too are a man of God. What if this week and the weeks ahead you determined to start praying for people. You decided to pass up the narrative of the world and your “go to” on the spot reaction to each need was, pray now? It would make a difference in so many ways. It might affect your ministry. It might change things!
Men of God pray. Man of God, pray!
