You Just Never Know

Growing up in our family was full of numerous blessings, including having so many preachers in our home over the years. Our lives were forever blessed by having some of our greatest preachers visit our home. One of the memories that stands out about all of these preachers is how they encouraged us, even as young boys, to give our lives to preaching.

I vividly remember men like Gus Nichols, Thomas B. Warren, V.P. Black, Jack Evans, Sr., Guy N. Woods, Eddie Cloer, and many others telling us we would be preachers. I’m not sure those men will ever know the impact their words and lives had on us as young men.

Recently, while preaching in another state, a young preacher came to me and mentioned that when he was a young boy, I told him that he should be a preacher. He said others encouraged him as well. One of his statements caused me to think about the importance of what we think about our work. He said, I have seen men who endured hardship, suffering, mistreatment, and loss, but they continued to preach the Word of God. They continued to minister to others even while dealing with their own pain.

Thank you, my dear brothers for being this kind of preacher. Thank you for not giving up or giving in. Thank you for your commitment to the cause of our Lord no matter what comes your way. Please don’t ever forget that you may well be making an impact on some young man who will impact eternity.
