HURRICANE RELIEF NEEDED: I got a call from our dear friend Don Williams this morning. Here is some of what he shared. “We have vacationed at Mexico Beach for the last 14 years. We met and fell in love with the good church at Church of Christ at the Beaches in Overstreet, just 6 miles away from Mexico Beach. The North Alabama Children’s Home decided last week we needed to help these good brethren and this area. We had 18 congregations and numerous folks from the Florence area help us fill up a 26 foot truck full of supplies, including 5 new generators. We also gave them almost $32,000. They were so appreciative! A disaster relief group from our brethren from Carrollton and Valdosta, Ga. are there feeding 100 people a meal, 3 times a day. Kirk Hiscock is their Minister there and he called me today, saying they are spending $3000 a week in running generators to feed these indigent people, as well as giving out gas to folks who need it for their own generators, go to work, etc. There is no power and it may be along time til they have it. The tree damage is enormous, and one church member had $23,000 damage to their home, with no insurance to pay for that. Most homes have roof damage, and some near the beach had floodwater damage. I believe this is a worthy effort for good brethren to help with. You can call me (Don) at 256 366-3327 if you have additional questions, or can call Kirk Hiscock at 850 340-1757. They need roofing supplies or groups of folks who would be willing to help clear debris or put shingles on. The mail service has been damaged by the great hurricane, but checks made out to Church of Christ at the Beaches could be sent to Kirk Hiscock's home address: 380 Trey Lane Wewahitchka, Fl. 32465. Last Sunday, they had 10 visitors from the community.”
